How Do You Determine What Gets Produced in USA vs. Offshore?

Our clients often ask us about the pros and cons of manufacturing in the United States and International so we wanted to record a short video to explain some things to think about when choosing which country to manufacture apparel.

When choosing to manufacture in United States or International, there are 7 main things to consider:

1) Source of fabric

2) Quantity of garments produced in program

3) Type of garments being produced

4) Price demands

5) Legal environment

6) Quality

7) Delivery Periods

As example, there are unit and fabric minimums for it it make sense when manufacturing overseas. The United States Government, covered under Berry Amendment requires USA manufacture and USA components for military uniforms.

What Are Common Challenges when Manufacturing Overseas?

Our clients often wonder if it is always better to manufacture overseas so we wanted to record a short video to explain the most common challenges to prepare for when manufacturing overseas.

Manufacturing overseas is parallel to manufacturing in another city or state close by. First, it is paramount to understand capabilities of factory producing garments. Second, all components pre-established and understood by all parties such as raw materials. Third, clear specifications of what finished garment will look like. Fourth, accurate samples ensure agreement of all parties prior to production.

These scenarios become a little more complex with other language involved such as Spanish or Chinese. This is why written specifications are key so even if there is a different language, what is written, can get interpreted into their native language for clear understanding.
